About Drey da Vasti

Sebastian Drey Sy-Marcaida, a.k.a. "Drey da Vasti"; a name suggested by his mother  to form a brand. The coining of his name originated from the inversion of his first name 'Sebastian', usually familiar among Filipinos as 'Baste'; which was then modified into a Romance language style of pronunciation of "Vasti" (with 'the' as an article as 'da', in derision to the name of Leonardo da Vinci). In turn, it became the Italian word for "Wide". Thus, developing the artist's philosophy of creating and transcribing art based on the wide wonders and epistemology within his realm. 

 

He is a Senior High School protégé at Don Bosco Technical Institute of Makati (DBTI-Makati) and is a current member of ART LOVERS PH (AL PH) within the Parañaque and Las Pinas chapter (AL Pque. and Las Piñas. He obtained his Junior High School program (with specialisation at Creative Design Technology) at DBTI-Makati, with Academic and Technical excellence of the curriculum of the institution.

 

From 2018-2020, he was the club president of Guhit Busko DBTI-Makati. In 2018, he was awarded as of the Juror's choice of Guhit Kalikasan 2018, held at the Globe Circuit Events Ground, Circuit Makati by the Youth and Sports Development Department (YSDD) of the City Goverment of Makati.

 

He has created several artworks, from elementary until the present times. Moreover, he also has an artistic and informative YouTube channel called Da Vasti Arts, with a Facebook page and Instagram account (cf. @sdsymar_1683). Also, he is currently studying in SHS, with the strand of Accountancy, Business, and Management (ABM).

Looking through his works, many of which are in line to realistic or classical forms of art; especially in related to portraits, anatomy, still life, intellectual subjects and religious Catholic art. Incorporating and creating works in connection to his Chinese-Spanish-Filipino ancestry, many of his works are stamped with his seal of his Chinese name "施義進力" and are inspired of Filipino and Spanish ambiance/philosophy.
